Chairman's Statement

Intraco Group has grown rapidly in tangent with Malaysia's robust economic growth over the past 10 years. The company, however, has always been prudent in its business development and expansion. The group did very well in 1997 with record sales of close to Ringgit Malaysia 100 million. Business for 1998 will see some slow down, especially the building material business. However, by changing our strategy to focus resources in servicing selective customers and more lucrative sectors,we will still be profitable in 1998. In this perspective, we will surf through the economic crisis just like we did during the recession in the 1980s.

The group's long term strategy is to expand its export-oriented businesses as well as non-export-oriented businesses that yield high returns. We will focus and expand our plastic, ceramic, oil and gas, and selective building material businesses.

The group will strive to grow conservatively at a good and comfortable pace. We shall emerge even stronger after the economic crisis.
